Join us for an enriching professional development workshop designed to empower math educators with the knowledge, skills, and strategies to enhance math instruction in their classrooms utilizing a workshop model. Over two engaging virtual sessions, participants will dive into key topics including math standards, effective teaching strategies, differentiated instruction, assessment techniques, and classroom management.
Day 1: Understanding the Math Workshop Framework
Day one kicks off with an exploration of the math workshop framework, equipping educators with a deep understanding of the foundational principles guiding math education. Participants will engage in discussions on research-based best practices and learn how to align instruction utilizing math standards to promote student success using the math workshop framework. Additionally, participants will gain valuable insights into classroom management techniques tailored specifically for the math classroom environment.
Day 2: Unlocking Potential: Mastering Mathematics Through Small Group
Instruction
On day two, educators will explore formative and summative assessment strategies, providing educators with insights into effectively measuring student progress and understanding. Through this interactive session and collaborative activities, educators will discover methods for differentiated instruction and engage in collaborative small-group lesson planning to tailor learning experiences to diverse student needs.
Throughout the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to reflect on their practice, engage in shared discussions, and walk away with resources for implementing new strategies in their classrooms utilizing the math workshop framework. By the end of the workshop, educators will leave feeling inspired, empowered, and equipped with practical tools and techniques to elevate math instruction and promote student achievement.
Shelly Daun
Shelly Daun, the Director of the FIRST Education Math Center, a division of FIRST Educational Resources, has 30-year in public education. Currently serving as the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, she brings a wealth of experience gained from roles as a teacher, instructional coach, and principal. Shelly extends her expertise globally by consulting with schools and districts. Specializing in math education, she provides customized professional development to enhance teaching methodologies, foster a deeper understanding of mathematics in educational settings, and provide students access to rigorous mathematical coursework.
Amanda Ironside
Amanda Ironside has over 20 years of experience in public education, working as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, and Advanced Learning Coordinator. Currently serving as the Gifted, Talented & Advanced Learner Coordinator for her district, Amanda consults with school districts, emphasizing a systematic approach through coaching and collaboration with teachers and administrators to enhance student outcomes and strengthen instructional practices.
