Disciplinary Literacy: Reading Comprehension Strategies (Grades 6-12)
Disciplinary literacy is a necessary set of skills that students must learn to experience success in content-based courses. Teachers will learn several new strategies that they can implement right away to improve student understanding of content-related texts.
In this session, teachers in all content areas will learn strategies they can use as part of their content instruction to support students to better comprehend texts. Disciplinary literacy is not one more thing on the plates of non-ELA teachers, but rather is a necessary set of skills that students must learn to experience success in their courses. As a result of this quick session, teachers will have several new strategies that they can implement right away to improve student understanding of content-related texts.
