"Streamlining the Curriculum: Using the Storyboard Approach"

AM workshops - 2 hours

"It’s Time to Streamline and Storyboard the Curriculum!"

Heidi Hayes Jacobs

This workshop will examine an approach to help schools and districts engage in making concrete choices addressing:  What to cut out? What to cut back? What to consolidate? What to create?  Streamlining is certainly essential but it is not enough.  We need to literally change the way we write curriculum. Storyboarding is an approach that helps teachers shift from a piecemeal approach to curriculum coverage to one that deliberately is written for students.   We will explore how you can craft an engaging storyboard that will hook your learners’ imaginations.

"Coaching for Innovative Teaching"

Danica Lewis

Even when presented with compelling reasons that change is needed, most folks will continue doing things the way they always have. Why is this true? Simply put, change is hard. If we want teachers to be innovative in their practice, we must provide the embedded support they need to take risks and try new strategies. In this workshop, we will explore coaching strategies designed to support innovative teaching.

"Side-by-Side Coaching: Building Capacity One Experience at a Time"

Julie Wright

Working in schools is complicated and sophisticated work. Coaches are constantly pivoting, being nimble in our approaches, to meet the learning needs of adults and students across the learning community.  During this workshop we’ll explore ways we can listen in, lean in, and lead professional learning experiences that have a direct impact on teacher learning and student growth. Join in—you’ll leave with  resources and tools to help you launch and sustain side-by-side coaching that can be used across the year.

EdCamp - Unconference

During this 45-minute block, attendees will be invited to propose topics they wish to discuss and learn more about. Breakout rooms will be created to accommodate the topics. Once in self-selected rooms, the gathered coaches and leaders will share their experiences, ask questions, and provide resources to each other.

PM workshops - 2 hours

"Flip the Coin, Coach...There’s a whole other side to this!"

Rufus Lott, III

Schools across the nation are asking the same question...how do we create learning environments that support both the academic, and emotional well-being of our students? We know how to coach for academic differentiation, but have we fully accessed the power of the differentiated classroom to increase behavioral engagement and teach behavioral expectations? Flip the differentiation coin and learn how coaching teachers to cultivate strong classroom environments will sustain behavioral engagement, build supportive learning environments, and increase overall academic
achievement in 21st century classrooms.

"Learning and Growth Focused Coaching Cycles"

Danica Lewis

Coaching cycles are a tried and true approach to providing embedded professional learning and support that improves teaching practice. In this workshop, coaches will learn how to establish coaching cycles that are realistic for their role and schedule and that are designed to impact student outcomes.

"Coaching is not Classroom Teaching: Applying Good Instruction to your Coaching Practice"

Drea Beale

Many of us who are now coaches found a great deal of success as classroom teachers...it's why we were asked to take on coaching roles! Luckily, we can take those good teaching practices and apply them to our work with adult learners. In this session, with a focus on adult learning theory, we will explore school goal alignment, coaching conversations focused on a goal, and data collection and discussion
